8th - 14th February 2019
Kim Loliya & Mini Schmidt Productions Collaboration
A new multimedia arts festival exploring heartbreak and creating community for heartbroken Londoners during the Valentine’s Day period.
Heartbreak Hotel - the concept that was born out of a desire to explore the reality of heartbreak and produce multimedia live art that invites discourse, elevates our understanding of this collective experience and brings hope through the expression of creativity.
Cuarators Kim Loliya and Catriona Smith (Mini Schmidt Productions) will be opening the festival with a ‘Breakup Party’ on Friday 8th February 2019 , a sassy celebration of single life with queer performers doing burlesque and drag and the festival will be closing with an Anti-Valentine’s Day Extravaganza hosted by The Cocoa Butter Club on 14th February 2019 (both events will take place at Rich Mix ). In between, on 9th-13th February 2019 there will be a series of panel debates, workshops, installations and activities taking place throughout the week at a private location in East London.
Kim Loliya says: “We know that there is a crisis of loneliness in the capital and in the run-up to Valentine’s Day, Londoners are feeling the pressure is on to be happy and engage in romantic gestures. For those who are heartbroken, it can be a very difficult time and we hope to create a community where those experiences can be normalised and explored through art and creativity.
We aim to infuse the week with self-care and self-love inspiration, so that it can also be a positive cathartic experience for some. Kim continues: “We have a huge mixture of visual art, performances, panels, workshops and installations, so there really is something for everyone and we are delighted to showcase art from a diverse pool of emerging artists and BAME performers.”
